Welcome and Thank You for visiting the Rising Sun Municipal Utilities website.
RSMU began operations in June of 1939 when the City of Rising Sun purchased the Rising Sun Water and Light Company, a subsidiary of the Associated Electric Company. The City held a special election on May 2nd of that year in which residents voted to approve the purchase of both the waterworks and the electric utility.
In 1955, RSMU expanded its services to include offering sanitary wastewater collection and the Wastewater Treatment plant was constructed. Major renovations were completed in 2007 to increase capacity, meet Federal and State regulations, and improve operations.
In 1997 a new Electric substation with twin 7500 KW transformers and a second 300,000 gallon elevated water storage tower were constructed at the north end of the city.
In 2005 the Utility once again expanded its services to include offering wireless high-speed internet to the residents and businesses of Rising Sun and Ohio County.
This year, we will be constructing a new 800gpm water well to ensure the City has sufficient capacity for consumption and fire protection. Also, we will continue expansion of the broadband utility for more complete coverage of the county.
RSMU is directed by a five member Utility Service Board. The USB members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council. Each board member serves a four year term.
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 5:00PM.
For your convenience, we have attached rates and policies for each utility. Feel free to contact myself or our office staff if you have any questions or concerns.
If you have any utility problems, call 438-3616 Mon-Fri 8:00AM to 5:00PM. For after hours or weekend emergencies call 438-3737.
Sincerely,
Shawn Guidice, Superintendent
