Bridge Maintenance Begins On Markland Dam Bridge

A maintenance project is underway underneath the Markland Dam Bridge.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the $515,717 worth of maintenance includes pier repairs, bearing replacements, and bridge joint repairs.

Crews are starting underneath the bridge, meaning traffic won’t be impacted at first. However, work will eventually move up onto the bridge deck. At that point, motorists will be faced with some lane closures.

The contractor, Judy C. Harp Company of Frankfort, Kentucky, is expected to complete the bridge restoration project in May of 2015.

“These improvements and repairs on the Markland Dam Bridge are an example of the Cabinet’s continued commitment to improving safety, mobility and pavement conditions on our highways and bridges,” said KYTC District 6 Chief District Engineer Rob Hans.
