Summer brings golf carts to the streets of Rising Sun, but with golf carts come rules. In the City of Rising Sun you must have your cart inspected by the Rising Sun Police Department and register and provide proof of insurance with the Clerk-Treasurer’s office to obtain a permit. Carts are permitted on City streets only and may not be driven on streets that are designated State Highway (N High St/SR 56; S Walnut St/SR 56; W Main St/SR 262). Those streets may be crossed at a right angle only.  Drivers must be 16 with a drivers license or I.D. or 15 when accompanied by a licensed driver over 18. No one under 15 may operate a cart on city streets. The ordinance does not allow ATV’s; UTV’s; “side-by-sides” or similar off-road vehicles.
