There are several events going on in our community May 17-18.

May 17 & 18- United Methodist Church Huge Yard Sale

The Rising Sun United Methodist Church is collecting items for their Mission Trip Yard Sale. Items can be dropped off at the church. Please contact Connie Hueber 812.655.1664 or leave a message at the church 812.438.4431 to make arrangements. The Mission Team sponsors this annual yard sale to raise money to purchase materials to be used for their yearly mission trip projects. The profits will be used to provide building materials, and other items.

The items are sold at rock bottom prices to help out people in the Rising Sun community and the church still makes a nice profit for mission work.  Any items leftover from the Church Yard Sale will go to the United Methodist Mountain Missions.

Come out for the United Methodist Church Huge Yard Sale May 17-18 at 110 S Walnut St. You are sure to go away with lots of bargains!

May 17- OCEMS Spring Festival

The OCEMS PTO’s Spring Festival is Friday, May 17 from 6 to 9 pm at the Elementary Middle School on South Mulberry St. There will be many carnival games, face painting, karaoke, dunking booth, a cake walk and candy land for kids of all ages. For those who want to shop, crafters will be selling homemade items of all types.  The OCEMS library will be open too for a book fair and the Rising Sun High School Band will provide a food booth.

Tickets for the festival are on sale now at the school and will also be available the night of the event. For questions about reserving a crafting booth, please call 812-438-2626 or email dlillie@risingsun.k12.in.us.

May 18- Beginner Seamstress Class at Window Stitchery

This is a great class for beginners ages 6 and up. It helps you get started on your way to being a sewing enthusiast. The Saturday, May 18 class at 1 pm involves leaning the sewing machine parts, functions, and basic stitches. Supplies and machines to use are included in the class fee of $25. Please prepay to reserve a seat.  Window Stitchery is located at 212 Walnut St.

May 18- Grand Opening at Fehrman Realty

Fehrman Realty, which has served southeast Indiana since 1976, is opening a Rising Sun office Saturday, May 18 at the corner of Main and Walnut Streets. Come in join them for their grand opening celebration from 11 am to 2 pm. There will be free food and door prizes provided.

May 18- Sundae Saturday at Amber’s Antiques & Hygge Hus

Join Amber’s Antiques and Hygge Hus at 211 and 213 Main St. for free sundaes and their Armed Forced Day special. All active duty military members and veterans will get 25 percent off any purchase.

May 18- Cemetery Clean Up Day

Ohio County Historical Society is sponsoring a clean up at the Union and Cedar Hedge Cemeteries on Saturday, May 18 from 10 am to 3 pm.  The cemeteries are located behind Rising Sun High School on Downey Street.

As part of the crew, you can help spruce of the grave sites and grounds.  Please bring gloves, rakes and a trimmer if you have one.  Lawn waste bags will be provided.
