Here are the official Rumpke Waste & Recycling service guidelines as provided by Rumpke.
Rising Sun partners with Rumpke Waste & Recycling to provide its residents and small businesses with friendly, dependable service. Follow the guidelines below to ensure weekly trash and recycling collection.
Service Guidelines
Trash service includes weekly collection of five 30-gallon cans or bags. Cans and bags should not exceed 50 pounds.
Weekly recycling collection is included at no additional cost. Residents can select either an 18-gallon recycling bin or a 65-gallon recycling cart for their collection needs.
Large Items
Rumpke will accept one properly prepared large item (furniture, appliances, mattresses) each week, per household. Please contact Rumpke at least 24-hours in advance to schedule collection.
Mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture must be wrapped and sealed in plastic, prior to collection.
Freon must be properly removed from appliances by a licensed technician, prior to collection. Visit www.rumpke.com for details.
Loose shrubbery, lumber and carpet must be bundled and tied in lengths no larger than 4 feet long and 2
feet wide. Bundles should not exceed 50 pounds.
Prohibited Items
According to federal law, Rumpke not permitted to accept batteries, tires, liquids, combustible materials or any items identified as hazardous.
Bulky materials including drywall, concrete, bricks, dirt or rocks are not acceptable.
Service Day & Time
Trash and recycling is collected on Wednesdays. Please place all items at the curb the night before your scheduled collection day. Service times may vary weekly.
Trash Carts
Rumpke 95-gallon trash carts are available to lease for $3.50 per month. Contact Rumpke at 1-800-828-8171 to lease.
Holiday Schedule
Rumpke observes Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If the holiday occurs the day-of or a weekday before your service, service will be delayed one day that week.

CARTONS– Remove lids & straws
METAL CANS
PLASTIC BOTTLES – Lids OK if reattached to bottle
GLASS BOTTLES & JARS – Lids OK if reattached to bottle- Metal lids OK if detached from bottle
Please place your recycling cart at the curb the evening before your scheduled collection day. Items should be placed loose into recycling carts. Make your recycling efforts count and leave out plastic bags, batteries and clothing. Visit www.rumpke.com for more recycling dos and don’ts.
